Empowering A Nation Through Education

About

With a narrative spanning over a century, Old Sun has served as a center for instruction on the Siksika Nation. Established in the late 1800s, it was named for the respected Chief Naato’saapi, a Siksika medicine man, leader, and warrior. The College initially functioned as an Indian Residential School for a time.

Today, Natosapi – Old Sun Community College stands as a First Nation Board-governed, non-profit institution, proudly serving the Siksika Nation. We don’t just offer education; we cultivate a future. Our mission is to provide quality, culturally relevant, lifelong learning opportunities designed to meet the unique needs of the Siksika Nation and all adult learners, all while powerfully preserving and celebrating the Siksika Way of Life.

This is more than a college; it’s a community built on enduring values:

Family: We prioritize your emotional well-being by strengthening family units and reintroducing the profound values of the traditional Blackfoot clan system. Your success is rooted in community.

Integrity: Experience a natural learning environment where values, knowledge, skills, and attitudes are guided by core Siksika practices for lifelong growth. Build a foundation you can trust.

Respect: Witness and embody respect in every interaction, a fundamental aspect of Siksika communication and traditional teachings, essential for building meaningful relationships.

Our commitment to excellence is unwavering. The OSCC Adult Education Program adheres to rigorous guidelines from Alberta Education, our own robust academic policies, and esteemed Indigenous accreditation bodies including Turtle Lodge Treaty, NIAB, WINHEC, WIPCE, and NAIHIL. This ensures your education is recognized and respected across the board.

Don’t just observe history; become a part of its future. Empower yourself through education that honors culture and builds your path forward. Explore our programs today and take the first step towards a brighter future with Natosapi – Old Sun Community College.
